Though the 2016 presidential election is still too far away for confirmed voice of comedic reasonJohn Oliver to tackle its increasing absurdities, that certainly hasn't stopped the rest of the country from clamoring over each other to say, support, retweet, or otherwise participate in some of the most ridiculous sound bites of all time. With Donald Trump apparently taking a (surely very brief) break from preposterousness ahead of his Saturday Night Livestint, fellow Republican hopeful Ben Carson now has another time to shine thanks to thisMother Jones-unearthed clip from a 2014 speaking engagement at the Richard Nixon Library:

Even when viewing this characteristically ridiculous sound bite alongside our dear friend context, the sentiment (widespread stupidity among the very people Carson wishes to lead) still stands. According to Mother Jones’ account, Carson made the remarks following a fifteen-minute talk at the aforementioned Nixon Library. After being asked if he would ever consider running for president as an independent, Carson reportedly "vowed" not to do so for fear of fracturing the Republican vote.

Speaking in response to the same question, Carson hilariously championed both "the good Lord" and Fox News as the reasons America isn’t Cuba, whatever that means:
