Pete Davidson says it was “an honor” to know Bob Saget, who died on Sunday at the age of 65.

In a note shared to Instagram via writer and comedian Dave Sirus (Davidson doesn’t use social media), the SNL and King of Staten Island star said the beloved Full House and America’s Funniest Home Videos comic was “one of the nicest men on the planet.”

Davidson also recalled “several times” during his friendship with Saget during which the industry veteran went out of his way to help him get through some “rough mental health stuff,” including—at one point—talking to his mother “for hours” and trying to link them up with doctors.

“He would check in on me and make sure I was okay,” Davidson recalled. “I love you Bob it was an honor to know you. Thank you for your kindness and friendship. My condolences to the family.”

On Sunday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida said its deputies were dispatched to the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes after receiving a call regarding an unresponsive man in a room. The man was later identified as Bob Saget, who was “pronounced deceased on [the] scene.” At the time, Saget was on a stand-up tour. Authorities have since confirmed that there was “no foul play or drug use in this case.”

In his final Instagram post, Saget praised the “really nice audience” he performed for at a recent show in Jacksonville.

“I had no idea I did a two hour set tonight,” Saget wrote. “I’m back in comedy like I was when I was 26. I guess I’m finding my new voice and loving every moment of it.”

Tributes have poured in following news of Saget’s death, including from his Full House co-star John Stamos, who said in a tweet shared Sunday night that he will “never ever have another friend like him.”

RIP.
