Pablo Escobar's Brother Wants Netflix to Pay Him a Billion Dollars for 'Narcos' (UPDATE)

UPDATE 07/07/16: Despite his relatively chill open letter to Netflix earlier this week, Pablo Escobar's brother has now turned up the heat. Roberto Escobar is seeking a cool billion bucks from the streaming platform. "A billion is what we used to make in a good week in the 1980s and 1990s," he toldNewsweek Thursday. "Apparently money is now growing on trees in favor of Netflix after my show was released. They should pay me immediately." Netflix has not publicly commented on Roberto's requests.

For Roberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria, the biological brother of Pablo Escobar, peeping Narcos before anyone else seems like the absolute leastNetflix could do.

"I am submitting a formal, friendly request to review this material solely on an informational basis," Roberto said in a press release Tuesday. "It is depicting me, my life, my family, and my brother. I think nobody else in the world is alive to determine the validity of the materials, but me."

Through Escobar Inc., Roberto registered Successor-in-Interest rights to Pablo and the Escobar family name in California last year. The company's COO, Daniel D. Reitberg, believes that Netflix honoring their request would make Roberto a "happy" dude. "All he wants to do is review their show, and if they want to pay for such content reviewing services—that's great!" Reitberg said.

According to Escobar Inc. CEO Olof K. Gustafsson, their team tried to reach out to Netflix prior to the series' premiere to no avail. "I think it is important that they recognize Roberto Escobar's wishes to review the show they are putting out, ensuring the family and viewers of an accurate portrayal of Pablo (Escobar) and Roberto (Escobar)," Gustafsson said.

Speaking to fellow Netflix star Chelsea Handler last month, Narcos actor Wagner Moura (Pablo Escobar) revealed something relatively major about the series' second season. "If you go to Google, you kind of can see what happens to Pablo," Moura said. As if that's not clear enough, dude also hit the Chelsea audience with something a bit more specific: "Pablo's gonna die this season," Moura revealed.
