Naya Rivera Reveals She Had an Abortion While on 'Glee' in New Memoir

Naya Rivera reveals she had an abortion while shooting 'Glee' in new memoir 'Sorry Not Sorry.'

In her new memoir Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes, and Growing Up, due next month, former Glee star Naya Rivera gets extremely real about her battles with childhood stardom and her experiences on the series that made her a household name. In a fresh excerpt obtained byPeople, Rivera opens up about her struggle with anorexia as a teen and reveals she had an abortion while she was on Glee.

In the book, Rivera said she discovered she was pregnant with actor Ryan Dorsey's baby in late 2010 just weeks after a break-up. The pregnancy was terminated during her "one day off" from Glee shooting. "It was very scary to open up about everything," Rivera said. "It's not something a lot of people talk about, but I think they should. I know some people might read it and say, 'What the hell?' But I hope someone out there gets something out of it." Rivera and Dorsey would later reunite and get married in 2014, welcoming a son last September.

Speaking on her eating disorder battle, Rivera said she wasn't fully aware of just how serious the issue could have been until she started recounting the struggle for her book. "By the time I was a sophomore, I started feeling that what had begun as a game had maybe gone too far," Rivera writes in Sorry Not Sorry. "I just avoided food at all costs. If my mom had packed a lunch for me, I'd either trash it or find some excuse to give it away."

Elsewhere in the book, Rivera promises to discuss "all the crap along the way" from inspiration to destiny. "After her rise and fall from early childhood stardom, barely eking her way through high school, a brief stint as a Hooters waitress, going through thick and thin with her mom/manager, and resurrecting her acting career as Santana Lopez on Glee, Naya emerged from these experiences with some key life lessons," the book's summary says.

Sorry Not Sorry hits shelves Sept. 13.
