Michael Fassbender Is a God in First 'Assassin's Creed' Trailer

Michael Fassbender stars in the first ‘Assassin’s Creed’ trailer, which premiered on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Wednesday.

Flipping a hugely successful video game franchise into a movie is a daunting task with some seriously mixed results. Anyone remember Mark Wahlberg brooding his way through Max Payne in 2008? But not everyone totally blows it. Jimmy Kimmel premiered the first trailer for the long-awaited Assassin's Creed adaptation Wednesday, giving fans a chance to finally see Michael Fassbender in action.

The trailer, which features Kanye West's Yeezus cut "I Am a God," brings the blockbuster Ubisoft franchise to life in ancient Spain. Fassbender, doing double duty as both Aguilar and Callum Lynch, is joined by Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman), and Michael K. Williams (The Wire).

Back in December, Fassbender admitted to Entertainment Weekly that he actually wasn't all that familiar with the film's source material. In fact, he's never even played the games. "I've played it since [being offered the job] mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character," Fassbender said. "We're striving to find something special. We believe the whole concept around it is special and want to service that the best we can."

Will Fassbender's lack of video game enthusiasm steer Assassin's Creed into unfortunate Max Payne territory? Hopefully not. Find out for sure when the film finally hits theaters Dec. 21.
