What would it take for Maury Povich to un-retire? Well, for starters, he’d like to launch a primetime special aimed at settling the long-headlined differences between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
During a recent appearance on Sherri, Povich, whose eponymous talk show wrapped its run in 2022, first reiterated his desire to have both Nicki Minaj and Cardi B undergo lie detector tests before proposing a similar strategy with Kendrick and Drake.
“I’ve even put this out on social media. I would come out of retirement if I could get Nicki and Cardi B [to] settle their differences with lie detector tests,” Povich told host Sherri Shepherd, who enthusiastically supported this idea. “How about if Drake and Kendrick did the same thing? I’d come out of retirement.”
When Sherri noted that “great ratings” would surely follow, Povich proposed that she could host the would-be special, which seems wildly unlikely to ever materialize.
“I’ve put it out there, I’ve put it out there. … We could do a primetime special,” he said. “You could be the host.”
Kendrick and Drake will next face off in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category at the 2026 Grammys. Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR are nominated for the $ome $exy $ongs 4 U highlight “Somebody Loves Me,” while Kendrick and SZA are vying for the trophy with GNX’s “luther,” a song that first started as an interlude before expanding into an eventual Hot 100 No. 1 hit.
Amid the usual year-end streaming stat rundowns, Kendrick and Drake have both fared well, with the latter recently crowned the most-streamed artist on Apple Music for 2025.
