LeBron James Reportedly in Talks to Produce 'Friday the 13th' Revival

Forget about the 2009 attempt at a 'Friday the 13th' reboot. There's apparently a newer, presumably better one in the works.

Friday the 13th went down the reboot path back in 2009, only to then have the franchise tossed into complicated legal turmoil that was partially resolved last month. Now, fresh off this weekend's Halloween success, we have word that new Lakers member LeBron James is "in talks" about producing another Friday the 13th revival.

A report from Bloody Disgusting Monday claimed that James and his SpringHill Entertainment banner are having discussions with Vertigo Entertainment about the film. James and SpringHill, as previously reported, already have the upcoming Space Jam return under their belt.

"I hold that [original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller] did not prepare the screenplay as a work for hire and that Miller’s Second Termination Notice validly terminated Horror's rights to the copyright in the screenplay to Friday the 13th," a judge ruled last month. Producers, per the Hollywood Reporter, had alleged that Miller had penned the script as a work-made-for-hire project after producer/director Sean Cunningham concocted the idea in light of the success of the original Halloween.

As for Space Jam 2, we learned last month that Black Panther and Creed director Ryan Coogler would be producing the Terence Nance-directed sequel alongside James' SpringHill. "The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie," James said when announcing Coogler's joining. "It's so much bigger. I'd just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don't just give up on their dreams."
