Killer From 'Don’t F*ck With Cats' Will Not Get Coronavirus-Related Early Release From Prison

Convicted killer Luka Magnotta, the subject of Netflix's Don't Fuck With Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer, will not get a coronavirus-inspired early release from a maximum security facility in Quebec.

Following reports claiming that Magnotta could become the latest high-profile prisoner to secure an early release from prison due to COVID-19 containment concerns, TMZ said Thursday that no such thing is in the cards for the murderer.

"Mr. Magnotta is not eligible, under law, for any form of parole [until June 4, 2034]," a rep from the Correctional Service of Canada is quoted as saying in the report. The rep also said that the facility where Magnotta is being kept has 15 positive COVID-19 tests among inmates so far, with 11 of those having recovered. An additional 15 employees have also tested positive. No deaths have been reported.

In 2014, Magnotta was found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the 2012 death of Chinese student Jun Lin. Magnotta killed and dismembered Lin, as well as mailed body parts to political leaders and schools.

Per the Correctional Service of Canada rep, virus-related early release is only being considered as a possibility for those categorized as low-level offenders who do not pose a risk to the general public. Magnotta does not meet such criteria.
