Black-ish returned to ABC Tuesday night with back-to-back new episodes, including a pretty impressive nod to Jordan Peele's Oscar-winning directorial debut Get Out.
The Black-ish take on Get Out tossed Anthony Anderson into the Sunken Place, complete with suspicious tea and the unique visual stylings that made the original sequence so compelling. Peele immediately sang his praises of the parody, calling it the "best" Get Out bit he's ever seen and congratulating series creator Kenya Barris on a job expertly done.
Peele is set to start production on his follow-up to Get Out, which practically owned the film criticism discussion in 2017, later this year. As of last month, Peele was still working on the script for the untitled project. "I'm just trying to entertain myself again," he told the Hollywood Reporter. Naturally, no plot details or anything else have been unveiled just yet. Peele has, however, confirmed that fans of his genre-expanding approach to Get Out should expect something in a similar lane from his next feature.
"That's my sweet spot," he said. "So I think tonally it should resemble Get Out. That said, I want to make a completely different movie." Instead of race, Peele added, he plans to focus on a different topic this time around.
Complex recently spoke with Get Out's Lil Rel Howery, who’s next set to star in Uncle Drew alongside Kyrie Irving and Nick Kroll. "It was like being in a fantasy camp I paid for," Rel said of shooting Charles Stone III's comedy, due June 29. Check out the full interview here.
