Jimmy Kimmel Shares 2Pac-Based Joke While Referencing Kanye’s Pete Davidson Diss

Jimmy Kimmel, whose own storied history with Ye is well-documented, addressed the new song "Eazy" during his opening monologue on Monday night.

While some fans expressed skepticism about a certain Pete Davidson-mentioning lyric from the artist formerly known as Kanye West actually appearing on the final version of the new track “Eazy,” such skepticism was erased with the arrival of the Game and Ye’s latest collab on streaming services over the weekend.

And with the song’s official release comes a reaction from Jimmy Kimmel, who—as Ye fans will recall—was called a “manipulative media mutherfucker” by the Donda artist nearly a decade ago in response to a parody sketch. Their relationship has since taken a number of turns.

Around the 3:40 mark in the video above, Kimmel brought up the new track “Eazy,” which does indeed include the previously-teased-via-a-rough-snippet line “God saved me from that crash just so I can beat Pete Davidson’s ass,” followed by an admittedly hilarious “Who?” ad-lib.

Kimmel’s comments, notably, include joking mentions of both 2Pac and Andy Samberg, as well as Taylor Swift.

“You know what it reminds me [of]? It reminds me of when 2Pac wrote a diss track about Andy Samberg,” Kimmel said during his opening monologue on Monday night. “Do you remember that? Can you imagine you’re minding your own business, you’re at home, and suddenly Kanye attacks you? I mean, he has done that to me. But can you imagine? Pete Davidson, though. Ariana Grande wrote a song about him, now Kanye’s got a song. Pete is one Taylor Swift away from the heartbreak trifecta right now.”

Despite that aforementioned 2013 back-and-forth, which also saw Ye arguing that Kimmel was “out of line” for spoofing his widely excerpted Zane Lowe sit-down, more recent years have seen him appearing on Kimmel’s show multiple times. Back in 2018, for example, he joined the show’s lineup for a 21-minute interview.

Ye also appeared on Kimmel’s show during the Jesus Is King era, including for a performance of the single “Church on Sunday.”
