UPDATE: Jimmy Fallon took to Twitter to explain the hand injury that led to tonight's Tonight Show being canceled, and it sounds pretty bad.

Tonight's show will be a repeat. It was supposed to feature Benicio Del Toro, Taylor Kitsch and Penn & Teller.

According toTMZ, Jimmy Fallon is currently recovering in a New York City hospital following a surgery early Friday morning. Fallon reportedly injured his left hand early Friday in his apartment, with doctors recommending an immediate operation. As a result, Friday's taping of The Tonight Show has been canceled — with no word on his official return date.

Fallon was spotted Thursday night at Upper East Side restaurant Scalinatella, where he posed for pictures and enjoyed dinner. Fallon is expected to make a full recovery, with no further delays of future Tonight Show tapings currently expected.
