Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor Beat the Absolute Sh*t Out of Each Other in 'Road House' Trailer

Directing the remake to the 1989 original is Doug Liman, known for 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' and 'The Bourne Identity.'

Our first proper look at the upcoming Road House remake is here, complete with a shredded-out Jake Gyllenhaal and a full-villain Conor McGregor.

"Before we start, do you have insurance?" Gyllenhaal's character kindly asks a soon-to-be-clobbered individual in the new trailer's opening moments.

The film, which is indeed a reimagining of the beloved 1989 action romp starring the late Patrick Swayze, is set to serve as the opening screening of the 2024 edition of the SXSW in March. Gyllenhaal stars as Dalton, a former UFC fighter who winds up finding work as a bouncer in the Florida Keys. Once settled into the new job, however, he realizes his repeatedly proven fighting skills are going to be put to the test in decidedly more high-stakes ways.

“Road House is a crowd-pleasing, vengeance-seeking, boat-jumping bar brawl and we are thrilled to kick (and punch) off the SXSW Film & TV Festival with this wildly entertaining premiere,“ Claudette Godfrey, the fest’s VP of Film & TV, said in an email on Thursday. “It’s been said that Jake Gyllenhaal gives a career-best performance and we completely agree! We can’t wait for our audiences to turn opening night into a one-of-a-kind experience.”

Gyllenhaal and McGregor are joined in the Doug Liman-directed film's cast by Jessica Williams, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Joaquim de Almeida, Lukas Gage, Arturo Castro, B.K. Cannon, Beau Knapp, Darren Barnet, and Dominique Columbus.

Following its SXSW premiere, Road House will brawl its way onto Prime Video on March 21. See the trailer up top. Below, get a slightly closer look via a pair of production stills.

Fans of the original Road House, the screenplay for which was penned by David Lee Henry and Hilary Henkin, will note that a direct-to-video sequel, Road House 2, was released back in 2006. Johnathon Schaech, of That Thing You Do! and Legends of Tomorrow, starred in that continuation from director Scott Ziehl.
