You may find this hard to believe, but a fair amount of people have carved time out of their presumably dreary Monday to express public befuddlement at the sight of the new Sonic the Hedgehog.

Most notably, a new motion poster for the 2019 Paramount adaptation begs the question "When—and why—did Sonic start over-hitting the gym?" Also, what's with all that fur if Sonic is supposed to be a finely quilled hedgehog?

The fur, at least, already has an on-the-record explanation from executive producer Tim Miller. For Miller and the rest of the new design team, the decision to go with fur was imperative to working Sonic into a real-world scenario. "It would be weird and it would feel like he was running around nude if he was some sort of otter-like thing," Miller toldIGN. "It was always, for us, fur, and we never considered anything different. It's part of what integrates him into the real world and makes him a real creature."

Miller also spoke on the creative moves behind Sonic's new shoes and how the latest incarnation of the Sega classic will depict the revered character's noted affinity for speed. Though Miller didn't offer much in the way of other design details, other Sonic fans happily filled in the gap:

At any rate, the movie is indeed still slated for a Nov. 8, 2019 release date. Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation, House of Lies) is voicing the blue title character, while Jim Carrey and James Marsden are among the rest of the live-action production's cast. So far, promo is going great!
