It's almost 2016 and, sadly, plenty of people are still cruising around their respective cities in obnoxiously loud and embarrassingly antiquated vehicles that use something called "gas." Gross. Thankfully, some of the perpetrators behind this gas obsession are finally starting to dump some serious money into a less gassy future by taking steps to introduce new fleets of electric cars for Earth-friendly humans.
Ford Motor Company, for example, just announced plans to drop $4.5 billion into the development and production of 13 fresh electric vehicles. This new fleet will include an updated Focus sedan and is set to be fully unveiled by 2020, Mashable reports. The company also plans to debut the Mondeo hybrid sedan and the C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid in China in 2016. Ford's executive Vice President of Product Development, Raj Nair, detailed the multifaceted approach the company is taking to meet electrification goals over the next five years:
By 2020, Ford hopes to be able to brag about 40 percent (a 13 percent jump from their current status) of its global offerings being available in electric versions. Make your moves fast, Ford: An Apple smart car would appear to be imminent.
