Fast & Furious 9 has been pushed off its original May 22 launch date and will now hit theaters in the U.S. on April 2, 2021 and globally the same month.
In a statement signed by the "Fast Family," coronavirus concerns aren't specifically mentioned, though the team makes clear that this move was inspired by their goal of having fans around the world be able to experience the latest entry in the massively successful franchise together:
The many simultaneous fuckeries surrounding the coronavirus have also included the announcement that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson had tested positive, word from the NBA that the season would be suspended, and the pushback of the 2020 edition of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Also on Thursday, A Quiet Place Part II was delayed.
"One of the things I'm most proud of is that people have said our movie is one you have to see all together," director John Krasinski said in a statement. A new date for the sequel had not been officially announced at the time of this writing.
