Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson Star in Teaser Trailer for New 'Saw' Movie 'Spiral'

'Spiral' is out this May.

Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Marisol Nichols, and Max Minghella star in the just-released teaser trailer for Spiral.

As those paying attention are already aware, Spiral represents a new chapter "from the book of Sawand is helmed by director Darren Lynn Bousman from a script by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.

See the new teaser trailer above. Spiral opens May 15.

Spiral is technically the ninth entry in the Saw franchise. The script pulls from a story crafted by Rock, who also serves as executive producer. Last May, the movie was announced with a different release date (Oct. 23) and some words of high praise from Lionsgate's Joe Drake, perVariety.

"Chris conceived this idea and it will be completely reverential to the legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision, and passion for this classic horror franchise," Drake said at the time. Saw producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules, meanwhile, compared the potential behind Rock's story idea to the genre-reinventing impact of Eddie Murphy's 48 Hours.

Jigsaw, the most recent entry in the Saw series, arrived back in October 2017 to largely blah reviews but expectedly strong box office numbers. As we inch closer to 2024 and the franchise's twentieth anniversary, perhaps Spiral's fresh take is exactly what the series needs to continue on for another two decades.
