Carrie Fisher doesn't understand why Star Wars fans young and old were united in stokedness following official word that she and Harrison Ford definitely smashed. Joined by her show-stealing dog Gary on Monday's Today show, the Princess Diarist author spoke about the response to the Carrison confirmation and how she timed it as a distraction for those growing weary of the President-elect.
"I was surprised at the reaction," Fisher said. "I don't know. I don't think it's that surprising." When asked to clarify if love had anything to do with the three-month situation, Fisher kept it blunt. "Well, I was 19," she said. "So, you know, I was not sort of a cavalier type person."
During a later discussion with fourth-hour Today legends Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, Fisher explained the timing of her confirmation in light of shit like this. "I think it's time to distract from the whole Trump thing, so it does that," Fisher said. "I did that as a favor. People want to talk about something else."
In Princess Diarist, Fisher describes 1976-era Ford as the sort of dude who could "take the hill, win the duel, be leader of the gluten-free world, all without breaking a sweat," which, I mean, same.
