In the future, hopefully every movie will be rated R. Can you imagine an R-rated Pixar entry? Until then, however, we are forced to cross our fingers whenever a seemingly R-rated movie gets announced. Blade Runner 2049 is the perfect example of these R-rated wishes in action, though director Denis Villeneuve has insisted fans needn't worry about the long-awaited sequel getting locked in PG-13 purgatory.

"My producers are finding it fun to remind me that it will be one of the most expensive R-rated independent feature films ever made," Villeneuve toldScreen Daily Tuesday. Blade Runner 2049, starring Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, wrapped shooting in November and is currently in post-production. The first glimpse at Villeneuve's continuation of the 1982 Ridley Scott classic arrived at the top of this week, uniting longtime Blade Runner fans in unfathomable hype:

Given the excitement surrounding next year's sequel, Villeneuve seems optimistic about keeping the Blade Runner story alive with additional sequels in the years ahead. "I'm doomed, I love sci-fi," he joked to Screen Daily. "I have two more ideas now that I would love to do. [And]Blade Runner could go on… we'll see how this one goes."

We already know the movie will probably be pretty fucking great, especially when considering the fact that Gosling and Ford had some quality hot tub hangs while shooting. "Talking to Harrison fully clothed in a hot tub is an experience I never thought I'd have," Gosling toldEntertainment Weekly Wednesday. "If you had told me a few years ago, I wouldn't have believed it."

Blade Runner 2049 opens Oct. 6, 2017.
