Ahead of Sunday's Golden Globes, which featured empowering red carpet and mid-broadcast discussion on Hollywood's #TimesUp initiative, Bella Thorne revealed she was sexually abused until she was 14 years old. Thorne, 20, also urged her followers to stand in solidarity with "every soul mistreated."

"I was sexually abused and physically growing up from the day I can remember till I was 14..when I finally had the courage to lock my door at night and sit by it," Thorne wrote on Instagram Sunday. "All damn night. Waiting for someone to take advantage of my life again. Over and over I waited for it to stop and finally it did. But some of us aren't as lucky to get out alive."

Thorne also tweeted in support of the #TimesUp movement, adding that she "didn't know the person sneaking into my bedroom at night was a bad person."

Thorne previously mentioned the abuse when replying to a question on Twitter back in December. "The world can be a sick place sometimes," she said at the time.

Time's Up, which was formally announced last week with a letter of solidarity, is designed as a "unified call for change" from women in the entertainment industry for women in other industries around the world. "From movie sets to farm fields to boardrooms alike, we envision nationwide leadership that reflects the world in which we live," a group statement on the official Time's Up website adds.

As part of the initiative, a legal defense fund has also been launched that will provide subsidized support for women and men who are ready to take a stand against assault and harassment. At the time of this writing, the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund had raised more than $16 million via GoFundMe.
