Revenge is a dish best served bloody, cheap, and in service of a larger cinematic universe aimed at dismantling the comforts of childhood.
Indeed, the childhood-ruining mission of the filmmaking team behind the ever-expanding “Poohniverse” continues this month with the first trailer for Bambi: The Reckoning, which centers on a decidedly jacked deer who’s out for revenge following the death of his mother.
As revealed in the trailer, viewers can expect at least one decapitation by way of the title character, not to mention a car-crushing sequence that calls to mind one of the most unforgettable moments from Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park adaptation. Starring in the Dan Allen-directed horror entry are Roxanne McKee, Tom Mulheron, Nicola Wright, Samira Mighty, and Alex Cooke.
Bambi’s revenge is slated to sprint into theaters this summer. See the trailer up top, and the official poster below.
The Poohniverse, a.k.a. the Twisted Childhood Universe, began with the Razzies-winning (and public domain-enabled) Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey in 2023, followed by a sequel one year later and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare in January. The first Blood and Honey was unanimously panned by critics, while its swiftly delivered sequel fared a bit better in that department.
Neverland Nightmare, in all its drugged-out infamy, held the line with similarly negative-leaning reviews, although a certain subset of horror fans have found plenty to like in all three films.
