Amanda Bynes, per a new report, has filed to end her conservatorship.

On Friday, Page Six first reported that Bynes had filed court documents in Ventura County, California asking for the termination of the conservatorship of her person and the estate. A hearing on the matter is said to be slated for next month.

The She’s the Man actress and Nickelodeon alum has been in a conservatorship since 2013. The move gave her mother, Lynn Bynes, authority over financial and medical matters. Bynes moving to bring the conservatorship to an end was also reported by TMZ, who noted the timing here “doesn’t seem coincidental.”

In recent months, Bynes’ conservatorship—as well as others in the entertainment industry—have received renewed attention from the general public due to developments in the Britney Spears case. In November of last year, a Los Angeles judge ended the singer’s widely condemned conservatorship, thus bringing to a close a years-long battle emboldened by supportive fans.

Amid coverage of Spears’ conservatorship battle last fall, it was reported that a judge had given a tentative ruling to extend Bynes’ conservatorship until 2023.

Bynes, meanwhile, hasn’t publicly addressed any of this. In 2020, she got engaged. The year prior, she announced her graduation from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. More recently, Bynes received a shout-out from Lil Uzi Vert. “I wanna work with Amanda Bynes,” the “Demon High” artist said in a tweet last January. “SHE BETTER HIT THAT AMANDA PLEASEEEEEEE on my shit!”

Bynes’ most recent major interview was with Paper back in 2018. Revisit the candid and career-spanning discussion here.
