Alabamians can finally claim a victory that has nothing to do with college football or Toby Keith fans per capita, though this latest win is certainly nothing worth bragging about. Alabama has now been officially dubbed the least marijuana-friendly state in the country, according to a recent 24/7 Wall Street assessment quoted by AL.com. Congrats on another face-palm, 'bama.

This news, of course, will come as absolutely no surprise to anyone who has ever been unfortunate enough to suffer through the state's bafflingly adamant anti-weed stance. For example, the maximum fine for possessing even a small amount of the good stuff can set doomed citizens back as much as $6,000. If that sounds ridiculous, that's because it most certainly is. Though the state saw a reduction in the severity of such penalties earlier this year, second-time offenders busted with any amount of weed still face felony charges and "up to five years incarceration." Gross, Alabama. Get your shit together.

On the opposite and far more future-minded end of the weed spectrum, Massachusetts stands tall as the most weed-friendly state and the most likely to legalize the completely harmless plant next. By comparison, the maximum fine for possessing a small amount of weed in Massachusetts is a far more reasonable (though not quite $0-level reasonable) $100.

Join us over here in the year 2015 anytime, Alabama. We'll save you a seat.
