It looks like Steven Yeun is entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the Walking Dead actor is set to appear in Marvel’s new film Thunderbolts—and it’s no minor role. The outlet writes that the part “is not only significant to this film but could also play a role going forward in future films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Thunderbolts will be helmed by Jake Schreier and produced by Kevin Feige, with the screenplay by Eric Pearson, who wrote Black Widow. While the plot remains a mystery, the Marvel comic follows a band of villains who go on government-ordered missions.

The movie is slated to release July 26, 2024. In addition to the introduction of Yeun’s new character, fans will also see the return of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and the Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko). Ayo Edebiri is also set to join, though her role is unknown.

Yeun saw his breakthrough on AMC’s The Walking Dead. But he hasn’t been pigeonholed as an actor since leaving the show. His recent credits include A24’s Minari, nabbing him an Oscar nomination for best actor in a leading role. He appeared in Jordan Peele’s Nope last year, is slated to be in Netflix and A24’s forthcoming show Beef with Ali Wong, and will appear in Bong Joon Ho’s Warner Bros’ pic Mickey 17.
