Eddie Murphy Recalls Getting Snowed in at Rick James’ Home While Recording “Party All the Time”

Eddie Murphy appeared on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' where he described getting snowed in at Rick James' home for two weeks while recording "Party All the Time."

Eddie Murphy and Rick James’ 1985 song “Party All the Time” wasn’t only a hit, reaching the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, but also has an interesting origin story.

Murphy shared the song’s backstory in a new episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Murphy had gone up one weekend to record “Party All the Time,” but ended up getting snowed in with James. “We were snowed in for two weeks. We were supposed to go up for the weekend. I went up there to record ‘Party All the Time,’” Murphy explained at around the 7:10 minute mark.

“So you’re in Rick’s house for two weeks, which seems like too long,” Kimmel responded.

“No, it was maybe the most fun I’ve ever had,” Murphy recalled. “We were supposed to go there for one weekend and we got snowed in in Buffalo and sometimes it has five feet of snow. And we’re stuck in Rick James’ house for two weeks and it was one of my fondest memories.”

The comedian and actor is gearing up for the release of his new Netflix movie You People, which is set to premiere on the streamer on Friday. Written by Jonah Hill and Kenya Barris, the film follows Ezra Cohen (Hill) and Amira Mohammed (Lauren London) who fall in love after meeting through a rideshare mix-up. Their impending marriage is soon, but their relationship is under scrutiny from both of their families who continually meddle in their relationship.
