According to Entertainment Tonight, screenwriter Diablo Cody said during a recent Storytelling 360 panel that she is currently working on a sequel to her 2009 cult classic, Jennifer’s Body. This update has been met with split reactions from fans. While some are thrilled over the news of a follow up movie, others think the ship has sailed, and that a sequel is unnecessary.
“I feel like the right time for this was like 2017,” one commenter wrote on the /horror Subreddit.
“I adore Jennifer's Body, but i really am getting exhausted from all the nostalgia bait sequels,” said another. “It's okay to move on. Let's get some new ideas.”
“I’m sorry but it’s a bad idea. Why can’t they simply leave things alone?” Another commenter chimed in.
The 2009 horror movie, starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, initially received poor ratings from fans and critics alike. (It currently has 47% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 36% audience score.) But in the past handful of years, the movie has received a dedicated cult following. Audiences began reanalyzing the film, deciding Cody’s movie was simply ahead of its time.
Now, the question fans want to know is whether Fox and Seyfried will reprise their roles in Jennifer’s Body for the sequel film. During an interview with Variety in last year, before the follow up script was officially confirmed, Seyfried expressed enthusiasm at the idea of reprising her role as Needy. “I haven’t seen a script, and I don’t know what it would be like, but I am curious to see where Needy goes,” she said. “Of course I would play her again.”
As for Fox, we have yet to receive a confirmation as to whether she’ll reprise her role as Jennifer Check. Stay tuned for more updates on the film.
