'Scrubs' Reboot Officially Greenlit at ABC

Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke are all set to return for the 'Scrubs' reboot.

Fifteen years after the show’s finale, the hospital-set sitcom Scrubs received a series order at ABC for the 2025–2026 television season.

On Thursday, July 10, ABC made the announcement that Scrubs would be returning for another season. Also returning? The series' original stars: Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke.

"'Scrubs' means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together," series creator Bill Lawrence said in a statement, according to Variety.

The medical sitcom was set at Sacred Heart Hospital and followed the lives of employees as they navigated the chaos and quirks of hospital life.

The series originally aired on NBC from October 2001 until 2008, where it was then picked up by ABC for its eighth and ninth seasons before being canceled in 2010.

In December 2024, Variety had first reported about the Scrubs revival with news that original star Zach Braff would be returning. Now, sources have confirmed that many original cast members will appear in the show's comeback. In addition to the original trio of Braff, Faison, and Chalke, fans can expect to see "...Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart, and some surprises along the way."

So far, fans have had mixed reactions about the reboot news.

"I wish we know how to let things go," one commenter wrote.

"Maybe one day we'll be allowed to have new things," someone else said.

Another commenter was more hopeful, stating, "Another nostalgia bait project, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt for now. This sequel season might actually land better than Season 9."

It remains to be seen whether or not the return of Scrubs will succeed. The series will be one of only three comedies on ABC's lineup for the 2025-2026 season.
