A luxury eco-hotel project at Herzliya Marina near Tel Aviv co-owned by Leonardo DiCaprio has received its final green light from the Tel Aviv District Planning and Building Committee. DiCaprio, 50, holds a 10% ownership in the development, while the rest of the investment is shared between The Harag Group and brothers Ahikam and Lior Cohen.

The partnership for the luxury hotel was announced in 2018. The project was then approved for deposit 6 years later, and has now received the final approval to move forward. Little is known about the hotel's details, but it will have 365 rooms spread across 14 floors.

Fans of the actor have become vocal upon hearing the news, with many criticizing the luxury project for possibly being environmentally harmful and tone-deaf.

"Yikes. Not a great look. Won’t be watching anything of his from now on," said someone on Reddit.

"So the environmental activism was just an act, should’ve known," another person replied.

A third person added, "I just don’t see why people constantly fawn over this dude… he clearly doesn’t care about the environment."

Someone else commented with a photo of a trashcan lid, saying, "Dropped your crown, Eco King."

The hotel's approval isn't the only real estate linked to the Wolf of Wall Street actor. DiCaprio recently listed his beachfront home in Malibu for $23 million, over $10 million more than what the actor paid for the property back in 2021.

In 2016, DiCaprio used his Best Actor acceptance speech at the Oscars to spark a conversation around environmental activism.

“Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating,” the Hollywood icon said at the podium. He also mentioned needing to, “Support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations, but who speak all of humanity.”

DiCaprio has yet to comment publicly on the luxury hotel's approval.
