Josh Hartnett had the bad luck to be involved in a car accident with a police vehicle last week in Canada.

The actor, per the CBC, was riding as a passenger in an SUV on Thursday (Sept. 25) when it collided with a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) patrol vehicle.

According to a press release by the RNC, Hartnett and the driver were taken to the hospital "with what is believed to be minor injuries." An officer in the patrol vehicle also went to the hospital "as a precaution."

Hartnett is on the island of Newfoundland filming a currently untitled Netflix series alongside Mackenzie Davis and Charlie Heaton. The company said that the show is about "a hard-bitten fisherman [who] discovers that his hometown is being terrorized by a mysterious creature."

Hartnett does not have any active presence on social media, so he has not posted about the accident or its aftermath. The Trap star left Hollywood two decades ago.

“People’s attention to me at the time was borderline unhealthy," he said in a 2024 interview with The Guardian, looking back on that early-aughts period. "There were incidents. People showed up at my house. People that were stalking me. At one point, a guy showed up at one of my premieres with a gun, claiming to be my father. He ended up in prison.

“There were lots of things. It was a weird time," he continued. "And I wasn’t going to be grist for the mill. I just didn’t want my life to be swallowed up by my work. And there was a notion at that time you just kind of give it all up. And you saw what happened to some people back then. They got obliterated by it. I didn’t want that for myself.”
