The Duggar family has stepped into the spotlight once again, this time reeling as Amy Duggar King has officially revised her initial statement regarding her stance on Kendra Caldwell. Following the shocking and horrifying arrests of both Joseph Duggar and his wife, Kendra, Amy has moved from the position of supportive friend to holding them accountable for their actions.
This major shift came after more “alarming” and intense details emerged from the investigation into the couple's home life and the welfare of their four children.
From Well-Wishes and Prayers to Major Plot Twist
At the start of all of this, Amy had put out a statement on March 19 offering her prayers to Kendra, as she worried for a mother dealing with and processing her husband's legal battles. The situation has rapidly changed since then, as Kendra was also arrested on March 20, compelling Amy to retract her initial statement and let loose another one that is much less friendly.
Current charges against the couple include second-degree false imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a minor. New reports from the investigation have painted a much more disturbing and chilling picture of what really went on inside the couple's household. The evidence alleges that the in-home search found the children's bedroom locked from the outside, meaning they were essentially used as jail cells rather than a quiet, calm room to kick back in.
In a follow-up interview with TMZ, Amy admits she was entirely blindsided, stating Kendra’s arrest was a “plot twist that no one saw coming."
Amy Shifts Her Focus to the Victims
In her new statement, Amy Duggar is less focused on Kendra being a victim herself and focuses on the actual alleged victims in this case: the kids. Amy made sure to clarify that her initial statement of support was solely based on the limited information available at the time, and that the new information “has changed and there’s more that is coming out... I’m just going to steer that statement towards the kids.”
Her new concern is the welfare of the four children residing in the home, and the 14-year-old victim involved in the charges against Joseph. The latest scandal has hit the public especially hard, given the severity and nature of the allegations.
Joseph Duggar faces charges in both Arkansas and Florida, including alleged sexual abuse of a minor that dates back to when the victim would have been just nine years old. Amy has been extremely vocal about the heartbreak this entire disgusting situation has caused, as she states the person she thought she knew is not the man who stands before her today.
As more details come to the very grim light, Amy made it clear that the only thing she cares about here is justice to be served to the fullest extent, even if that means she has to speak out against her own family in the process.
