Invincible fans might have plenty of things to look forward to when it comes to the Prime Video series' newest season, but hearing Aaron Paul reprise his role as the vengeful Powerplex won't be one of them.
Speaking on a recent episode of Kinda Funny Gamescast, the 46-year-old Breaking Bad star revealed that he outright refused to revisit his electricity-powered supervillain in season four of Invincible.
Despite being an avid fan of the show, Paul specifically said the emotional toll of portraying a character as dark and tragic as Powerplex led to him stepping away from the series.
“I did a couple of episodes, and then they asked me to come back for the next season," Paul said on the podcast. "But I’ve got to tell you… that show, I’m such a fan of. I watch every episode. I love [it]. But it was just way too grueling on my psyche.”
“Powerplex is not just messing around," the Golden Globe-nominated actor said. "He’s going through turmoil… I put myself in that skin, and it was a skin I didn’t feel comfortable in, to be honest.”
"What it did to me, I didn’t like," the actor poignantly summarized. "And so, I couldn’t continue."
In his initial appearances, Powerplex (also known by his real name, Scott Duvall) appeared as an ordinary family man who blamed Invincible for the accidental deaths of his sister and niece. Driven by revenge, Powerplex ruthlessly pursued Invincible, ultimately leading to the similarly tragic demise of his own wife and son.
While Paul discussed the emotional impact the role had on him, he also emphasized just how much he enjoyed his time on Invincible, speaking fondly about the cast and crew involved in the series' production. “Everyone involved in that is amazing,” Paul said.
Season four of Invincible is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video in March, 2026, with a specific air date yet to be announced.
