Since the moment it debuted on Amazon Prime Video, most fans have wondered whether the events of Fallout's TV show would influence any future game installments within the larger Fallout universe.
According to a new interview with BBC Newsbeat, Fallout's chief game designer, Todd Howard, revealed that this would indeed be the case.
"In short, yes," Howard told the publication when asked whether Prime Video's Fallout will tie into future game installments. "Fallout 5 will be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening. We are taking that into account."
Howard's comments come only a few short days after the earlier-than-scheduled release of Fallout's second season on Prime Video. Transposing the series' narrative to the dusty wasteland of New Vegas, the show's second season immediately replicated the success of its opening installment, earning repeated praise from Fallout fans and non-gaming viewers alike.
Of course, we are still some ways away from the release of Fallout 5, with the game's release still up in the air. The last mainstream Fallout game players received came in the form of 2015's Fallout 4, which won widespread acclaim among longtime fans of the series.
As dedicated gaming fans might know, Howard won acclaim for his tenure in both The Elder Scrolls series and Fallout franchise. Previously, the well-respected designer served as game director of 2008's Fallout 3, the creative director of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and the director of Fallout 4.
He also served as a producer on 2018's Fallout 76, the less-than-well-received multiplayer game that acted as a prequel to several prominent Fallout installments. Howard also served as an executive producer behind the positively reviewed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, an action-adventure game that takes place between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
