Over the past decade, Taylor Sheridan has become increasingly well-known for creating some of the most unforgettable crime drama series of the modern era.

With hit series like Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Landman and Tulsa King under his belt, the 55-year-old gritty-drama guru has assuredly become one of the most successful TV showrunners working today.

But if current plans for the future hold true, Sheridan will soon help usher in a long-anticipated video game adaptation fans have waited decades to see.

According to Deadline, the accomplished television writer is currently set to write and produce the upcoming adaptation of Call of Duty. The film, which has been locked in development for roughly 10 years, will be directed by award-winning filmmaker Peter Berg, who will provide the screenplay alongside Sheridan.

As even the most casual fans of the series are sure to know, Call of Duty has long remained one of the most successful video game franchises of all time, selling over 500 million copies globally since its creation.

Originally released in 2003 as a World War II-set first-person shooter, the game has since evolved to include dozens of entries across various historical and futuristic settings.

As of yet, there's no firm confirmation about the upcoming film's plot or premise, nor is there any definitive hints about the film's potential chronological setting. In the past, the fan-favorite game series has spanned such varied decades as the Pacific Theater of World War II, the Vietnam War, and more contemporary settings in Russia, South America, and the Middle East, among many others.

The new Call of Duty film will be backed by both Paramount and Activision, the original developers of the long-standing game series. If successful, Paramount has indicated plans to follow up with additional entries in the series, potentially paving the way for sequels, spin-offs and even full-fledged television series.
