Zac Efron Reportedly Hospitalized After Contracting 'Life-Threatening' Illness (UPDATE)

UPDATED 12/29/19 9:02 p.m. ET: Zac Efron gave fans an update Sunday regarding his health scare in Papua New Guinea.

"Very thankful to everyone who has reached out. I did get sick in Papua New Guinea but I bounced back quick and finished an amazing 3 weeks in P.N.G.," he tweeted. "I’m home for the holidays with my friends and family. Thanks for all the love and concern, see you in 2020!"

Baywatch actor Zac Efron is reportedly feeling better after contracting a serious infection while filming his newest show, Killing Zac Efron, in Papua New Guinea, according to reports.

The 32-year-old became sick from a bacterial infection before Christmas and was flown to a private hospital in Brisbane, Australia where he was treated for several days, according to the Sunday Telegraph. An Australian medical evacuation company, Medical Rescue Group, flew him to the hospital.

According to reports, the actor contracted some “form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection” that brought about “a life or death medical emergency."

He flew back to the United States on Christmas Eve, the outlet reports. The actor appears to be doing better, as he recently showed up to pop-up event in Los Angeles.

Efron's show, Killing Zac Efron, is set to appear ontheupcoming short-form mobile video platform Quibi. The actor will play himself as he "heads deep into the jungles of a remote, dangerous island to carve his own name in expedition history." Photos of the actor in Papua New Guinea have surfaced online as well.
