Some games are just that: games. But some games are a glimpses into other worlds, one's that not only have vast landscapes and epic adventures, but cool characters as well. Characters who would look really good when made of resin or plastic, and sitting on your desk to the left of your monitor. No, your other left.

What follows are the twenty-five best video game-related toys ever released (and, for the most part, still available). From meticulously detailed statues and ships replicas to cartoonish stuffed animals and stylized action figures, we’ve got a game-inspired toy for every desk. And bookshelf. And that spot to the left of your TV where you used to keep that week’s TV Guide. No, your other left. Geez.

In the upcoming free-to-play, multiplayer online battle game Infinite Crisis (which is based on the 2005 comic books of the same name), you won't just get to fight your friends as such iconic DC character as Catwoman and Green Lantern, but as odd variations on those classic characters that include Gaslight Catwoman (a steampunky version of the sexy thief) and Arcane Green Lantern (who either hails from a medieval planet...or he works at Medieval Times).

But while the game is free, the toys based on those cool alternative characters are not. As you'd expect, one of the first will be the 10.25-inches tall Nightmare Batman, a half-bat, half-man who hails from a world that's like a horror movie come to life. But the far more interesting one is Atomic Wonder Woman, who comes from a version of Earth that was decimated by a nuclear war. Looking like she made her outfit by stealing clothes from the men's department of Macy's, this 1.25-inches tall statue has her holding a weapon that's clearly a chainsaw mounted on a metal pole.

As anyone who's survived a zombie horde will tell you, the undead are not someone you want to face on your own. That's just one of the reasons why last year's Resident Evil 6 had you playing as one-half of three different duos (well, for the most part).

Which makes it fitting that the first batch of Resident Evil 6 Play Arts –Kai- figures from Square Enix would be the dynamic duo you play as in the beginning of the game: Leon S. Kennedy and Helena Harper. Both come with their own weapons - Leon has two pistols and an assault rifle; Helena has a pistol and a sassy attitude - as well as swapable hands to accommodate said weapons. Or to do jazz hands; zombies hate jazz hands. Both the 8.86-inch tall Helena and the 9.65-inch tall Leon also come with their own stands, so you don't have to get both and then lean them against each other so they'll stand up. Though you could if you really want to recreate the beginning of the game.

In 1989, the now defunct video game company LJN Toys published A Nightmare on Elm Street, a video game for the original NES that was based on the horror movie series. Even weirder, the people who made the game were Rare, the British game studio that went on to make such classic games as 1994's Donkey Kong Country, 1997's GoldenEye 007, and 2000's Perfect Dark.

Now NECA are releasing an action figure of Freddy Krueger that's modeled after how he looked in the A Nightmare On Elm Street game. This 7-inch tall figure has him wearing the same striped orange and brown sweater with orange pants he wore in the game, and it even comes in a box that's made to look like the one the game came in (the only difference being that it says NECA where it used to say Nintendo, and that this version flips open so you check out the toy inside without taking it out of the box). Even cooler, the inside flap has a screen shot from the end of the game that declared, "Freddy is dead and the nightmare is ended...or was it?"

Like its predecessor, 2000's American McGee's Alice, its long-awaited sequel, 2011's Alice: Madness Returns, was a trippy platformer inspired by Lewis Carroll's already surreal fairy tales Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass.

To celebrate this sequel finally being made, in 2011 Diamond Select issued a series of action figures inspired by the game's crazy characters. Besides the Card Guard and Cheshire Cat, there are three different versions of Alice - regular, Royal Guard, and the Marilyn Manson-looking Hysteria - all of whom come with her Vorpal blade, Pepper Grinder, and Hobby Horse weapons. Designed by the good people at Gentle Giant, all of these figures stand 7-inches tall and are fully articulated, so you can invite them to a tea party without fear that they won't be able to hold their cups. You can even, if you like, get the Alice: Madness Returns Action Figure Set Of 3, which has regular Alice, the Card Guard, and the Cheshire Cat in one convenient package (though, between you and me, Hysteria Alice is the coolest of the bunch).

With Assassin's Creed becoming an annual series, it makes sense that they'd have a lot of characters (especially since they killed off Kristen Bell's for some reason). Why is why McFarlane toy's first round of Assassin's Creed figures has eight different characters: Connor, Haytham Kenway, Edward Kenway, Connor New York Outfit (which is only available at Walgreens), the oddly named Ratonhnkake:ton, Black Bart (who's exclusive to Amazon.com), Benjamin Horngold, and Black Beard Edward Teach (an exclusive to GameStop).

Even cooler, all eight figures also unlock exclusive stuff in either Assassin's Creed III or the upcoming Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The Edward Kenway one, for instance, gives you the Kenway Family Sword in Flag, Ratonhnkake:ton unlocks the Initiates Achievement in III (which, ironically, means you haven't really achieved anything), while the two versions of Connor both give you Connor's Sails in III. All of these detailed 6-inch tall also come with different removable accessories, be they Edward Kenway's two swords, Haytham Kenway's sword and pistol, or Ratonhnkake:ton's pistols, bow, and hatchet. Here's hoping they have one of Bell's character when they get to series 2.

Having been around for more than thirty-five years, Street Fighter isn't just a bunch of fighting games, it's an institution. So it makes sense that State Of The Art Toys wouldn't just make Street Fighter action figures, but highly detailed 12- and 18-inch tall statues that will not only look nice next to your Oscar, Emmy, and Tony Awards, but will actually make them look crappy by comparison.

Made of resin, the 12-inch tall Akuma statue was available as both a regular edition ($119.99) and as an exclusive edition ($139.99) that had LED lights and maybe white hair as well, but it sold out a long time ago (check eBay). Still available is the 12-inch tall Oni statue ($174.99) which has LED lights in the flames, hair, eyes, and base. Though there's only 500, so we'd act fast. The same goes for what's arguably the coolest of the bunch: the 18-inch Ryu statues ($374.99) which have LED lights in the flames, and are available in both regular Ryu (200 pieces) and Evil Ryu (125 pieces).

In both 2007's Portal and it's sequel, 2011's Portal 2, you have to use a portal gun, as well as your wits and ability to think in terms of three-dimensional space, to navigate some sadistically laid-out rooms. But in some levels, you not only have to figure out how to get from point A to point B, but you have to do so with the Weighted Companion Cube, an approximately three-foot-square crate that has a pink heart on every side. Because getting somewhere is meaningless if you don't carry something heavy along the way.

If you'd like to be reminded of this every day, but in the softest way possible, you need to get the Portal Plush Weighted Companion Cube from NECA. Though it's not as big as the real one - this plushie is only six-inches square - this just means it'll be easier for you to carry from the livingroom to the bedroom when it's time to go to sleep. It's also made of soft polyester fiber, which means you can spot clean it with a damp cloth if you get any cake on it.

While the Dead Of Alive games may boast that they have the best looking characters of any fighting game (or at least the ones who'd be the most buoyant in a water landing), the ladies of Tekken Tag Tournament 2ain't bad in the looks department. Especially when they're redone in the style of anime, which is what you get from Kotobukiya's Bishoujo statues of Jaycee and Emilie "Lili" De Rochefort.

Like similar statues in Kotobukiya's Bishoujo series - which have included such comic book characters as Black Widow, Elektra, and Harley Quinn - the Jaycee and Lili ones are based on drawings by iconic Japanese illustrator Shunya Yamashita. Both of these lovely ladies also come with their own special display base, with Jaycee also including a removable headpiece. At 1/7th scale, Jaycee stands just a shade more than 8-inches tall, while Lili has a height advantage at just under 9-inches. While both of these characters were originally introduced in other games - Jaycee in 1997's Tekken 3; Lili in 2005's Tekken 5 - their outfits are actually inspired by the way they looked in last year's Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Given that they're Japanese, and have an anime sensibility when it comes to their visual style, it should be no surprise that the Final Fantasy games have had their share of cutesy characters. Or that Square Enix would make stuffed animal versions of those cutesy characters as well.

Made of cotton and polyester, with accessories made of PVC plastic, Square Enix's Final Fantasy Plushies include one based on the stuffed animal Moogle that Lulu had in 2001's Final Fantasy X ($22.99) and a Tonberry, who first appeared in 1992's Final Fantasy V and comes with a robe, knife, and lantern ($22.99). There's even one of a Cactuar, who first appeared in 1994's Final Fantasy VI, and who comes in his typical running pose ($22.99). Lastly, can celebrate the series' recent birthday with the 25th Anniversary Plush Chocobo ($29.99), which has one of the Woodstock-looking birds holding a cake that, fittingly, looks like it's chocolate. The first three of these stand around 10-inches tall, give or take an inch, while the Chocobo one is only 7-inches high, since he's sitting down.

Oh sure, we all laughed when they announced Angry Birds Star Wars. Now we can't stop putting Jedi bathrobes on pigeons and flinging them at buildings. Which is why we should stay away from these toys, since they not only include action figures, blocks, and catapults, but they unlock characters in the cell phone or tablet version of the new Angry Birds Star Wars II as well.

Like fans of the Star Wars movies, these collections are divided by trilogy. For those into the original three movies, there's the Star Destroyer Set ($39.99), the Death Star Trench Run Set ($19.99), and the Endor Chase Set ($19.99). When it came out in 2005, Psychonauts - a platformer in which a kid with psychic powers sneaks into a summer camp for children with similar abilities - was hailed as a masterpiece by fans and critics alike, but was ignored by people with money in their wallets. In the eight years since, however, the game has garnered the kind of passionate cult following normally reserved for Monty Python movies, creative taco trucks, and Canadian power trios.

Which is why the game's developers, Double Fine, are now selling mini figures of ten Psychonauts characters: Razputin "Raz" Aquato, Lili, Dogen, Sasha Nein, Milla Vodello, Morceau, Oleander, Ford Cruller, Boyd Cooper, Dr. Loboto, and Sheegor with Mr. Pokeylope. Standing between 1- to 3-inches tall - depending on how tall they are in real life, I mean the game - each toy is available individually, but comes in a sealed box, so you can't pick the one you want. Though you can also get the full set of ten, which, unlike the individual ones, are not random, but instead have one of each figure.

In 2007's BioShock, one of the most fearsome enemies you faced while exploring the underwater city of Rapture was the Big Daddy, the surprisingly spry and very powerful guys in archaic diving suits who would stop at nothing to protect the Little Sisters. Which is why you occasionally found yourself with a big drill where you heart used to be. But in the underrated sequel, 2010's BioShock 2, the tables got turned when you got to be a Big Daddy, with all the rights and responsibilities that entails.

In honor of this sequel, NECA has made the BioShock 2 Light Up Big Daddy Action Figure. Standing 7-inches tall, this action figure not only has removable tanks, but is also fully articulated, so you can pose him like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever or Jesus or however you like. It also has LED lights in his head that you can switch from green to yellow to red, so you can change his mood depending on whether you'd like him to attack your cat or be in a good mood. Best of all, for once, the batteries are included.

While the idea of "bait and switch" has been around for as long as people have been selling things, the concept was really driven home for gamers with 2001's Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. While that game looked like it was going to be another great adventure for Solid Snake, it quickly turned when Snake ran off to get a smoothie or something, abdicating the game to a blonde pretty boy named Raiden. And while Raiden largely redeemed himself earlier this year with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, there are still some M.G.S.2 fans who'll never forgive him.

Which makes it rather curious that he's one of two new figures released by Square Enix as part of their Play Arts –Kai- line of M.G.S.2 figures. Standing 11-inches tall, the Raiden toy has interchangeable hands, so you can have him hold his pistol or his sword, as well as a display base so he can stand tall while you yell at him for stealing from Snake. Meanwhile, the other M.G.S.2 figure being released by Square Enix is Liquid Snake, Solid Snake's twin brother. Like Raiden, he too stands 11-inches tall on a custom base, and has swappable hands so you can have him hold either a pistol or a shoulder-fired missile launcher.

Much like LEGOs and Playmobile Figures, Minimates are adorably blocky action figures that can make anyone - be they a superhero or a video game bad guy - look weirdly adorable.

Over the years, Diamond Select Toys has made a number of these 2-inch tall toys, including ones for such PlayStation games Uncharted, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance, as well as the new Tomb Raider. But the biggest collection is for the fighting game series Marvel Vs. Capcom, which, like the game, has included such iconic character as Arthur from Ghosts 'N' Goblins, Dante from Devil May Cry, Mega Man, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil games, Morrigna and Felicia from Darkstalkers, Mike Haggar from Final Fight, Viewtiful Joe, as well as Chun-Li, Ryu, and Crimson Viper from Street Fighter (along with, of course, such Marvel superheroes as Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Captain America). All of then are sold in sets of two - Mega Man Zero is paired with Magneto, for instance, while Resistance hero Nathan Hale shares a plastic container with an Advanced Hybrid Chimera - though some sets are exclusive to Toys "R" Us.

In the StarCraft games, the Zerg are an alien race who have assimilated other species and use them as both soldiers and cannon fodder. One of the latter bunch are the Banelings, tick-looking aliens who serve as suicide bombers since, when shot, they explode, damaging any nearby units. So, naturally, the good people at Blizzard turned these vicious alien creatures into an adorable stuffed animal.

Due out November 20, after originally only being sold at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the Zergling/Baneling Transformable Plush is actually two, two, two stuffed animals in one, since it can go from being a Baneling to a Zergling (i.e., a little Zerg) by unzipping its belly, turning it inside out, and zipping it back up again (though, sadly, it doesn't make the classic Transformers sound when you do). Made of a super soft fabric, these plushies stand more than 10-inches tall when in Zergling form, and a bit less when they're Banelings. Which makes them the perfect size for cuddling when you're playing StarCraft II and get your ass handed to you by some kid in South Korea who's young enough to still have stuffed animals on her bed.

In the post-apocalyptic world of Gears Of War, survivors have to cobble together whatever they can to survive. So they'd either really appreciate - or be really offended by the idea - that Erector makes sets where you build the vehicles, and even a battlefield, by screwing together bits of metal and plastic.

Besides getting to build such transports as C.O.G. King Raven helicopter ($44.99), which has over 300 parts, the over 120 piece C.O.G. Centaur Tank ($29.99), and the C.O.G. Armadillo APC ($24.99), which has just a few more than 80 parts, all of the sets come with the stickers so you can properly decorate these C.O.G. machines. In addition, the sets also come with 2-inch-tall figures of both Delta Squad members (such as Marcus, Cole Train, and Baird) and Locust for them to fight, as well as tons of lil' guns for them to use. There's even an elaborate skirmish collection, the Locust Vs. Delta Squad Battle Set ($49.99), which has more than 200 parts, including boxes to duck behind for cover, gas tanks to blow up, and everything you'll need to built both some scaffolding and the C.O.G. Armadillo APC.

Whether you're using it to stack boxes so you can jump over a fence, or to shoot circular saw blades to kill head crabs, the Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator (or Gravity Gun as most people call it) in an indispensible tool if you want to survive the alien-infested world of Half-Life 2. But it can also come in handy around the house, say if you need to put a book up on a top shelf and don't have a ladder.

Sadly, you can't do any of that with the Half-Life 2 Gravity Gun Replica from NECA. Based on the same digital files as the one in the game, this life-sized model is nearly two-feet long, and has working triggers. It will even, if you put three C batteries in it (not included), light up like the real thing and emit four different sounds that are also taken from the game. But while that's as close as it gets to actually working, you can still impress your friends with it by deploying the hidden kickstand to display it prominently on your mantle.

Given that a video game can make millions of dollars - or even $800 million in a single day if you're damn lucky - it makes sense that game companies would take their games, and the characters in them, very seriously. Thankfully, though, some seem have a sense of humor about these things, and remember that games are supposed to be fun.

Which is how we have Bobble Budds, funny-looking toys of video game characters that make everyone look like they should be standing next to Charlie Brown in a Peanuts cartoon. Each one is 3.5-inches tall, with heads you can lock in multiple positions. Besides ones for such recent games as Saints Row IV (including ones of Matt Miller, Johnny Gat, Oleg, Killbane, Pierce, Shaundi, Phillipe Loren) and the Dead Rising series (Frank West, Chuck Greene), they also have a bunch for such classic games as Street Fighter (including Blanka, Chun-Li, Ryu, Sagat, Oni, Zangief, Ken, Cammy, Guile) and Mega Man, as well as some weird ones like a zombie version of SRIV's Johnny Gat and something called Mecha Zangief which, I can only assume, is from an unannounced game called Street Fighter X Godzilla.

Over the years, Gentle Giant have made mini busts for a number of Star Wars characters. But not only have they made them for such movie stars as Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, and Mace Windu, but they've also made ones of characters from the books (General Admiral Thrawn), video games (Darth Vader from The Force Unleashed), and even ones of C-3PO and a Stormtrooper that are based on the original concept drawings that artist Ralph McQuarrie made for the first movie. Heck, they even made one of Yoda wearing 3D glasses and munching on some pop corn. Not surprisingly, most sold out faster than you can say, "May the Force Be With You."

Their latest soon-to-be-sold-out mini bust is of Darth Malgus, the Sith Lord from the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, who also appeared in Paul S. Kemp's companion novel Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived (Del Rey). Like their other mini busts, the 8-inch tall Darth Malgus one is 1/6 scale, hand-painted, individually numbered - only 1430 are being made - and comes with a matching certificate of authenticity.

While many of the companies who make action figures do so with an attention to detail and accuracy, the good people at Funko take a, well, more adorable approach. With huge heads, beady eyes, and tiny noses, their POP! Vinyl Figures have turned the most serious or scary characters from movies (such as Azog from The Hobbit), comics books (The Joker), or TV (the tank zombie from The Walking Dead) into something cute and cartoony.

Not surprisingly, they've also given the POP! treatment to a number of video game characters as well. Besides iconic characters from the Assassin's Creed games (including Altair, Ezio, Connor, Edward, and the Plague Doctor), the Mass Effect series (Commander Sheppard, Miranda, Tail, Garrus, and Grunt), Halo (Master Chief, Cortana, both Red and Blue Spartan Warriors), and Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails), they've also done them for all three of Blizzard's games: Starcraft (Jim Raynor and The Queen of Blades), Diablo (Tyrael and the titular demon), and World of Warcraft (Arthas, Illidan). There's even one for the Pirate from Plants Vs. Zombies, with many more to come.

Even though it's not nearly as scary as the first two installments, Dead Space 3 is still one of 2013's best games. And part of the reason why is that is has our hero Isaac Clark fighting shoot alien zombies on an icy planet while wearing a suit with a fuzzy collar.

It's something you can be reminded of whenever you look at Kotobukiya's Dead Space 3 Isaac Clarke ARTFX Statue. Standing more than a foot tall, this 1/6 scale statue has Clarke holding his handy Plasma Cutter and wearing his Resource Integration Gear suit as he stands with one foot on the remains of a dead Necromorph. This incredibly detailed statue also has LED lights in his helmet, backpack, and glove, so you'll always know he's healthy, has plenty of stasis power, and can see a little better in the dark. You can even turn his head left or right so he can look at lesser action figures and say, "Yeah, that's right, my collar is fuzzy. Call me when you survive a Hoth-like frozen world infested with space zombies."

While Microsoft are already teasing the next game, we're not done playing Halo 4. Which is why McFarlane toys are releasing the second series of Halo 4 action figures, all of which unlock exclusive in-game extras.

Included in this collection are Master Chief (of course), who comes with a mini figure of his gal pal Cortana as well as a code for a skin on his assault rifle that's codenamed Riptide, a Spartan C.I.O. (who gives you the Ruin skin for the C.I.O. armor), a Spartan Scout (which unlocks the Toxic skin for the Scout armor), an Elite Ranger (which unlocks the Chill skin for the Storm Rifle, a Storm Jackal (which unlocks the Carbide's Engage skin), and The Didact (which gives you the Refractive skins for the Venator armor and Suppressor). All of these fully-articulated figures stand 6-inches tall, save for The Didact, who's 9-inches tall and has removable armor so you can see his pretty face. But if you'd prefer something stationary, the limited edition 12-inch tall Resin Statue has El Jefe recreating the pose from the cover of Halo 4.

Want to know how Bruce Wayne made his billions? It's because every time there's a new Batman movie, comic, game, whatever, there's a new Batman action figure to go along with it. There's even, no joke, a Batman action figure inspired by the way he looks in the shorts the Wallace & Gromit guy made, which Cartoon Network run Saturday mornings between Beware the Batman and Teen Titans Go (though, in all fairness, they're pretty funny shorts). And who do you think gets a cut of all that toy money? Exactly.

So it should come as no surprise that, to accompany the new Batman: Arkham Origins game, there are four new toys. Not only are there a 6.75-inch tall figures of both The Dark Knight and Black Mask (who, in the game, puts a price on Batman's head), but there's also a 6-inch one of The Joker and an 8-inch one of Bane, with all of them looking like they do in the game. Each toy has multiple points of articulation, as well as their own accessories, such as Black Mark's twin pistols. And this, Batfans, is just series one.

In the Mass Effect games, Commander Sheppard can decorate her cabin with models of other space ships. But even if you aren't a captain, you can still decorate your living area with these replicas of various ships from the Mass Effect games.

Naturally, many of them are versions of Sheppard's starship, the Normandy, including a 6.75-inch long version that looks like it did in the first game ($34.99) or, if you can find it, with a limited edition Silver Metal Finish edition ($49.99). In the history of video games, there may be no more hilariously warped character than CL4P-TP, otherwise known as Claptrap. Thanks to his comedy stylings, 2009's Borderlands and 2012's Borderlands aren't just two of the most engaging action/adventure games of the last few years, they're the most weirdly funny as well.

Which is why NECA have released three different Claptrap action figures over the years, with a fourth coming in 2014. Standing 4-inches tall, the original edition has posable arms, an antenna and a drawer that retract, a rolling wheel, and a base that resembles the sandy land of Pandora. The same can be said for the Blu14 model, which is the same height and has the same features, except it's blue and a limited edition (though still available). NECA also has the Jakobs Claptrap, also 4-inches tall and fully posable, which has the wood paneling and brass like he did in the add-on The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned. Though if you can wait until next year, you can get the fully articulated, 4-inch tall Gentleman Caller Claptrap, modeled after the dashing 'bot who runs the bank.
