Eating snacks makes me happy. Eating snacks from a different country makes me ecstatic. It’s like Christmas when exotic treats show up at your door, each package a surprise waiting to be discovered. Walk with me as I unwrap and consume some snaks I receieved from the Philippines.
Biscocho
Biscocho originated in Iloilo by the company Biscocho Haus. Now the most popular snack from that region, this hard, crunchy bread is made from flour, butter, sugar, eggs, and milk. If you have a sweet tooth, this will be sure to satisfy.
Cloud9 Classic
This snack is covered filled with caramel, crunchy peanuts, and soft nougat. Rich chocolate covers the snack, providing a creamy and chewy satisfaction when eaten. A bit salty with chunks of peanuts, Cloud9 is a less sugary hybrid of Snickers and Twix.
Pili Tarts
Pili tarts may be small, but they pack serious power. The flour-crusted bottom is filled with yummy sweetness, while crushed peanuts line the top. The entire treat is covered with a crips sugar coating. This snack is perfect for the 4 p.m. pick me up.
Nagaraya Cracker Nuts
These garlic and adobo cracker nuts are super crunchy. Though salty, they also provide a sweet after-taste once chewed. Like the Piattos chip, it's hard to have just one. But don’t worry—it’s not like the MSG is making you want more…
Happy Peanuts
The chicken adobo flavor just tastes like airplane food—makes sense, given that these are served on Philippines Airlines. The peanuts are small, not too flavorful. Just a little something hold you over.
Oishi Chocolate Pillows
These choco-filled crackers are shaped like actual pillows. Imagine a chocolate graham cracker filled with semi-sweet chocolate. Perfect for all the chocolate lovers.
Oishi Pods Vegetarian Pea Snack
This green pea snack has a nutty-but-smokey taste that doesn’t overpower the pea flavor, which provides a sweetness that lingers. Great with beer.
Piattos Chips
The sour-cream-and-onion-flavored potato crisps are baked, meaning they're never greasy. And unlike American takes on the flavor, these aren't salty; it's a light, crunchy chip that you can't have just one of.
Potato Fries Chips
The tomato ketchup-flavor smells exactly like ketchup, which works well for a chip that's shaped like a French fry. Bar chips, for sure.
Milo Breakfast Cereal
Milo, best known for its hot chocolate drink, blessed us with breakfast cereal. The chocolate and malt flavored wheat balls are reminiscent of Cocoa Puffs, but with greater chocolate flavor. It's crunchy and doesn't lose its flavor in milk.
Nova Multigrain Snack Chips
The country cheddar chip looks like a Sun Chip but doesn't have that strong a flavor. If you're looking for a chip with a subtle whole grain taste, and no lingerging flavor, this is going to be your new favorite.
