Melissa McCarthy Returns to ‘SNL’ as an Aggressive, Ill-Informed Sean Spicer

After White House Press Secretary and “alternative facts” specialist Sean Spicer favorably compared Nazi leader Adolf Hitler to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and called Nazi concentration camps “Holocaust centers,” Saturday Night Live was quick to pounce. Melissa McCarty reprised her role as Spicer for an Easter-themed apology sketch, as the Trump Administration continues to provide content on a weekly basis.

McCarthy donned an Easter Bunny suit, which was a nod to Spicer playing the Easter Bunny at a White House Easter Egg Roll event during the George W. Bush administration.

“I am sensitive to the fact that they were sent there on trains,” McCarthy said, clearly mocking Spicer’s Holocaust reference. “But hey, at least they didn’t have to fly United. Am I right?”

Given that Spicer’s original gaffe happened on Passover,SNL’s writers showed little mercy in righteously raking Spicer over the coals. McCarthy’s fictional Spicer took offense at being corrected for “every little slur and lie I say,” before offering up all manner of anti-Semitism.

Things ended with a revelation of, “Oh by the way, the President’s probably gonna bomb North Korea tonight”—a joke that hit uncomfortably close to home.
