Roman Polanski's attorney issued a letter to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) warning that if Polanski is not re-instated into the Academy, he will be taking them to court.

"The only proper solution would be for your organization to rescind its illegal expulsion of Mr. Polanski and follow its own Standards of Conduct by giving Mr. Polanski reasonable notice of the charges against him and a fair hearing to present his position with respect to any proposed expulsion," writes Polanski's attorney, Harland Braun, in a letter to the Academy.

This threat of legal action comes a week after the Academy publicly rescinded Polanski along with Bill Cosby's memberships from the organization, which voted last week to remove them, according to Deadline.

Braun has recently been working to establish Polanski's innocence since his conviction for raping a 13-year-old girl decades ago in 1978. Braun claims that Polanski was merely the victim of political corruption and court misconduct. Now, he's helping Polanski to fight back against the Academy for expelling him, and hopes that the 84-year-old director can return to Hollywood and be reinstated into the Academy.

"We are not here contesting the merits of the expulsion decision, but rather your organization’s blatant disregard of its own Standards of Conduct in, as well as its violations of the standards required by California Corporations Code," Braun writes.

The AMPAS has yet to issue a response to the threat.
