Rose McGowan has been vocal recently in expressing disapproval over the silent protest many actresses have planned for the 2018 Golden Globes. Fellow actor and feminist activist Amber Tamblyn took offense to McGowan's comment that women should opt to instead "wear Marchesa" to the Golden Globes rather than just the color black. "YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy," she tweeted (and deleted).
Tamblyn responded to the comment publicly on Twitter, stating: "you don't have to support and stand with us, but we stand and support you." Tamblyn also took issue with what she considered as McGowan taking "below the belt shots" at a group of women who she believes are are actively working to start a movement.
While Tamblyn urged McGowan and her followers to "Heed the mantra: #ChangeIsComing," many shared in McGowan's gripes over the protest. The Twitter discourse that followed Tamblyn's comments seemed to share in the overall sentiment that wearing a black dress in silent protest to go receive awards would not have as great an impact as they intended.
Tamblyn's tweets had some scratching their heads as to why the actress wouldn't just call up her pal Rose to discuss the issue, instead of airing her grievances online. Tamblyn quickly set the record straight.
Hopefully the two can reach an agreement, because as Tamblyn said, we're going to have to stand together to face this fight.
