A 780-pound steer's daring escape to freedom ended with a Baltimore police officer's bullet this morning.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the steer had jumped a barb-wire fence on its way to Ruppersberger & Sons Inc. slaughter house in West Baltimore. After making a run for it, the steer headed toward Mid-Town in a misguided attempt to find greener pastures.
Unfortunately for the animal, however, police felt he needed to be taken out after becoming "increasingly aggressive." After he was shot, a large crowd gathered to say farewell to the dead animal at North Charles and Preston St.
For those wondering about the difference between a steer and a bull, a steer is a bull that has been neutered—an indignity that proved not to be the last for this particular animal.
