Oblivious Canadian Teens Playing Pokémon Go Were Detained for Illegally Crossing the Border

Pokémon Go claims more victims of stupidity after two Canadian teens accidentally crossed the border while playing the game.

Two Canadian teenagers who have not yet been introduced to some of life's most useful maxims—like "Don't illegally cross international borders in the name of video games"—were detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents last week after they accidentally entered the U.S. in attempt to catch some Pokémon, ABC Newsreports.

The teens, allegedly oblivious to their surroundings, wandered south through the Canadian province of Alberta into northern Montana the evening of July 21, where U.S. Border Patrol agents saw them.

“Both juveniles were so captivated by their Pokémon Go games that they lost track of where they were," U.S. Customs and Border Protection Public Affairs Officer Michael Rappold said in a statement. "They crossed the international border inadvertently, but agents were able to reunite them with their mother.”

It is, almost unsurprisingly, not the first international incident to arise from people who don't know what their limits are with Pokémon. A Bosnian NGO had to warn citizens not to enter active minefields—remnants of the 1992 war—in the name of catching 'em all.

People are, apparently, willing to go to great physical lengths for the game.
