In the aftermath of TIFF, this week we’ve been blessed with a slew of trailers of all genres and quality and we’ve weeded through them all to bring you the best ones. No need to go to the theater to catch these trailers, just put in your headphones, turn the volume up to a deafening level, and watch all of these in a row.

The 5th Wave

Genre: Sci-fi, Thriller

Director: J Blakeson

Stars: Chloë Grace Moretz, Liev Schreiber, Maika Monroe

Release date: January 15, 2016

Will we ever tire of aliens destroying worldwide infrastructure and stealing our children? From the looks of The 5th Wave, probably not. After aliens attack the earth with five waves of plagues, Chloë Grace Moretz has to save her little brother from their evil, slimy grips. Two hot dudes (Alex Roe and Nick Robinson) help her as she learns to kick ass, both alien and human. Ron Livingston of Office Space fame is now relegated to the role of 'Dad,' and Liev Schreiber serves as an army colonel tasked with taking back control of the earth. Things will likely turn out just fine.

I Smile Back

Genre: Drama

Director: Adam Salky

Stars: Sarah Silverman, Josh Charles, Thomas Sadoski

Release date: October 23

In I Smile Back, comedian Sarah Silverman shows off her serious side, starring as Laney Brooks, an unhappy mother and wife who self-medicates with booze, drugs, and sex. Will her self-destructive tendencies ruin her picture-perfect family life? Does she care? Silverman’s acting chops shine even just in this two-minute trailer. If the movie can live up to this, it looks like Silverman might even be in the running for an Oscar in a few months time.

Hardcore

Genre: Action, Sci-Fi

Director: Ilya Naishuller

Stars: Sharlto Copley, Haley Bennett, Danila Kozlovsky

Release date: TBD

Hardcore is a nuanced look at the illusive nature of life and memory. Just kidding. Hardcore is the 90-minute version of watching somebody else play Halo. The main character (who is also sort of you), is brought back to life as a cyborg by his sexy scientist wife, and then has to save the world for some reason. Hardcore debuted at TIFF earlier this week, but at the moment has no definite U.S. release date scheduled.

Freeheld

Genre: Biography, Drama

Director: Peter Sollett

Stars: Julianne Moore, Ellen Page

Release date: October 2

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s historic decision to legalize gay marriage nationwide, movies like Freeheld remind us that there are still battles to be fought on the equality front. Based on the true story of New Jersey Police lieutenant Laurel Hester’s struggle to secure death benefits for her partner, Freeheld’s most recent trailer is also the debut of Miley Cyrus’ new track, “Hands of Love.” Sounds like Miley is ready to get serious again and Freeheld seems like the perfect movie for her new track.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant

Genre: Adventure, Sci-Fi

Director: Robert Schwentke

Stars: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Zoe Kravitz

Release date: March 18, 2016

Another blow in the springtime onslaught of epic, IMAX-ready films, Allegiant is the second to last movie in the Divergent series. Allegiant sticks with the trend of splitting the final installment of a trilogy into two films. With deviation from the book and questionable special effects (that vertical run up the wall was weak, guys), it remains to be seen whether Allegiant can live up to the hype. At least Shailene Woodley’s hair looks awesome!
