Wicked: For Good is leaving a huge mark at the box office, opening with an incredible $226 million worldwide and landing the fourth-largest debut of 2025.

The sequel collected a massive $150 million in North America and another $76 million overseas, giving theaters a major boost after months of low turnout, and showing that Universal’s ambitious decision to split the Broadway smash into two films didn't hurt either at the box office. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the sequel brings back stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, and Jonathan Bailey.

The story picks back up from the first film as Elphaba is officially named the Wicked Witch of the West, while Glinda’s role as an adored public figure grows even bigger. Fans also get to see fresh takes on beloved The Wizard of Oz characters, including Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. Filmgoers are loving the film, as it earned an “A” CinemaScore, just like Wicked.

Wicked: For Good has already reached several major milestones. Globally, it now holds the highest opening weekend ever for a Broadway musical adaptation, surpassing the first Wicked movie’s debut. It also logged the fourth-biggest Hollywood opening of 2025, coming in behind only Lilo & Stitch, Jurassic World Rebirth, and A Minecraft Movie. Among all musicals ever released, it ranks as the fifth-largest worldwide debut, trailing the live-action Lion King, Moana 2, Frozen 2, and Beauty and the Beast (2017).

Domestically, Wicked: For Good delivered the strongest opening ever for a stage-to-screen adaptation, topping the 2024 Wicked film. It also scored the second-highest opening weekend of 2025, edged out only by A Minecraft Movie. For Universal, it now ranks as the studio’s second-largest debut in history, behind 2015’s Jurassic World, and it posted the second-highest pre-Thanksgiving opening of all time. It also became the third-biggest musical opening domestically, following The Lion King (2019) and Beauty and the Beast (2017).

Internationally, the film recorded the biggest overseas launch ever for a Broadway musical adaptation, again surpassing the first Wicked.
