Niecy Nash is proving that even a chaotic travel experience can turn into a memorable story, especially when you get a little unexpected help along the way.

During a recent appearance on Keke Palmer's podcast, the Emmy-winning actress recounted how her birthday trip to Mexico took an unexpected turn when she, her wife Jessica Betts, and their family became stranded in Puerto Vallarta amid reports of unrest linked to street violence. With limited options and resources, the group quickly found themselves running low on essentials, including food.

"We were getting low on food where we stayed" said Nash. "We said, 'Oh, well, you know what? There's a W that we could get to in the golf cart. Let's go over to this hotel and try to get some rations and bring them back to our spot.'"

Nash added that the welcome at the hotel wasn't exactly warm, prompting them to find another way inside. That decision led to an unlikely encounter that would ultimately help salvage the trip.

While at the hotel bar, Nash and her group struck up a conversation with another couple who turned out to be swingers. Rather than being thrown off by the situation, Nash saw an opportunity to make the best of a stressful moment.

"'Well, what room are y'all in? Where's the party?,'" Nash recalled. "We get the room number. We order everything that we need to take back to the house to their room because we're not guests. And then we say, 'No, we want to pay for it in cash.' So it wouldn't be on their bill when they checked out. You know what I mean?"

She continued, "And it was like, 'Oh, you know, maybe next time.' You know, and 'thanks for the food.' And we got out of there and they were so drunk they didn't even know that we ordered all the stuff to their room."

The interaction, while unconventional, helped them navigate a difficult situation and get through the remainder of their stay safely.

Despite the unexpected detour, Nash made it clear the experience didn't dampen her birthday spirit. Instead, it became a story of quick thinking, adaptability, and finding humor in a tough situation.
