Jackie Chan is facing the heat after people criticized him for allegedly abandoning his daughter once a clip from one of his movies showing himself and an actress playing his child went viral this month.

The movie star martial artist was a trending topic over the July 4th weekend when a clip of him watching his old stunts with a woman that many believed was his actual daughter surfaced online. The video showed Chan and the woman sharing a tearful moment and exchanging dialogue as they watched his crazy stunts.

The tweet came with a caption that read, "Jackie Chan and his daughter crying while watching some of his old movie scenes is the most wholesome thing you'll watch today. Thanks for our childhood legend." It didn't take long for people to believe this was Jackie Chan's daughter as they shared how touching the clip was.

However, the video is a scene from one of Chan's latest movies, Ride On, in which he plays a popular former stuntman movie star. The scene had the internet fooled until people realized Chan doesn't have the greatest relationship with his actual daughter, Etta Ng Chok Lam.

Jackie Chan's estranged relationship with his daughter Etta has been well-documented in the past. Etta was born out of wedlock when Jackie had an extramarital affair with Elaine Ng Yi-lei, a former beauty queen, in 1999. The now 69-year-old cut all ties with Elaine once he found out she was pregnant, leaving Etta without her biological father in her life.

Etta came out as a lesbian in 2017, and a year later shared a YouTube video asking for help, seemingly suggesting that's the reason he wants nothing to do with her. According to Etta, she and her wife Autumn were "homeless for a month" and sleeping under a bridge "due to homophobic parents."

Twitter got a hold of the truth behind the viral clip, and many let Jackie Chan have it as they dragged him for the alleged treatment he's given Etta over the years, especially when he's worth $400 million.

"Finding out Jackie Chan disowned his OWN daughter because she was gay & she been living on the streets homeless ever since while his net worth is 400m was not on my 2023 bingo card…," one person tweeted.

Another wrote, "Jackie Chan didn't disown his daughter for being a lesbian. He left her before she was even born. He's a deadbeat, not a homophobe (lmfao). Her mother and stepfather are the ones that disowned her. Lol y'all just running with any bullshit y'all hear."

Jackie Chan hasn't responded to the criticisms over the viral clip as of press time. You can read more reactions to the actor's apparently strained relationship with his daughter Etta below.
