Sophie Rain says a case of mistaken identity is what helped launch her multimillion-dollar content career.
During her appearance on the Full Send Podcast, the 21-year-old social media personality told the Nelk Boys that a viral video featuring a woman who resembled her was the turning point in her career.
The viral clip showed a woman in a Spider-Man costume and sparked widespread speculation that it was Rain.
"Everyone thought it was me," Rain said. "Every time I said no, they didn’t believe me. So I ran with it."
Rain said the clip’s popularity led to a surge in her social media following and sparked new interest in her OnlyFans content.
Though she had already been active on social media since 2021, she credits the video with taking her from earning $20,000 a month to more than $1 million monthly.
Rain launched her OnlyFans account shortly after gaining traction on TikTok and Instagram. She had previously been working as a server in Tampa.
"I already had about 10,000 followers. That was a big deal to me," she said. "I felt successful."
She told podcast co-host Steiny that her early success was a mix of luck and pure timing. "I got in early, stayed consistent, and I had a good team behind me," she said.
Though many people speculated she created the persona "Sophie Rain" to appear younger, Rain said her fake name and age were originally chosen for safety. "I didn’t want anyone to know my real identity," she said. "It wasn’t a marketing strategy. I was trying to protect myself."
Rain, who is now one of the highest-paid creators on the platform, said she made $95 million in under three years. "People made up their minds," she said. "So I stopped trying to correct them."
The influencer added that she’s stayed true to her boundaries since the start. "I don’t do anything I’m uncomfortable with," she said. "I think that’s why I’ve been able to last in this industry."
