Fitness influencer Laura Saponara said an unsettling date with a man she met at the gym pushed her to focus on working harder.

In an interview with The Blast, Saponara, 25, called the encounter “crazy” and memorable for the wrong reasons.

Saponara said the man first took her to Dave and Buster’s after meeting her at the gym. She said he was “sweet, nice, respectful” and invited her out again. On their second outing, she said they went bowling, and he continued to act polite.

The night ended earlier than she expected, but she said he insisted on spending more time together. Without wanting him in her home, she said she agreed to follow him to his place.

Once there, she alleges they sat on his bed in the dark. “He tells me to tase him, and I’m like, 'What?'” she said.

When she asked for clarification, she said he told her, “I don’t feel any pain.” Saponara explained to the outlet that she questioned him repeatedly before he claimed to be “a celestial.”

According to Saponara, he said the term meant “that he’s an angel in a human’s body.” She asked if it was similar to the TV show Lucifer.

She said he replied, “Oh yeah, they just didn’t get everything right,” adding, “Lucifer actually goes by Satan,” and claiming the show’s “daddy issues part” was accurate.

She said she asked if that meant they were brothers. “Yes,” she recalled him saying. Saponara said he then claimed to have wings. When she asked to see them, she said he responded that he could not “pop them out on command,” but could show her on a rooftop.

She admitted to The Blast that her first thought was fear. “He is going to off himself, the both of us,” she said.

Saponara revealed he went further, telling her he was not 25 but was born during a period he described as “AD,” though she believed he meant “BC.”

She quoted him estimating his age at “2000 something years old.” The influencer said he later told her a future child with her would be a celestial, that he was brought to Earth to “protect me specifically,” and that she could “become a celestial too.”

Saponara said she cut off contact after the date. She said the man called her twice immediately after she told two friends about the encounter. She also said strange incidents followed, including clouds forming outside her high-rise window after a clear night, and the man appearing at a gym event minutes after she told the story there.

A year later, she said a bowling lane malfunctioned right after she recounted the situation to another date. According to her, “anytime I tell this story, something always, always happens.”

Sharing the experience online helped introduce her to a much wider audience. Her authentic fitness-focused content quickly resonated and led to rapid growth across platforms.

She now reaches over 1.3 million followers, including 1.1 million on TikTok, 226,000 on Instagram, and a growing audience on YouTube.

In addition to her social media presence, Saponara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts from Loyola Marymount University.
