Comedian David A. Arnold Dies at 54

Comedian, 'Fuller House' writer, and Nickelodeon's 'That Girl Lay Lay' creator David A. Arnold has passed away from 'natural causes' at the age of 54.

Comedian,Fuller House writer, and That Girl Lay Lay creator David A. Arnold has passed away at the age of 54.

Arnold’s death was confirmed on Sept. 7 by his family in a statement shared by Deadline.

“It is with great sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of our husband, father, brother and friend, David A. Arnold,” the statement read. “David passed away peacefully today in his home and doctors have ruled the cause of death due to natural causes. Please keep our family in prayer and respect our privacy at this time, as we are all shocked and devastated by this loss.”

David A. Arnold started off as a stand-up comic, performing notable sets at the Montreal Comedy Festival and on Jamie Foxx’s Laffapalooza on Comedy Central. He then transitioned into writing and contributed to multiple comedy series including TBS’s Meet The Browns and Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.

He then began writing on the Fuller House Netflix reboot series and was most notably the creator of Nickelodeon’s That Girl Lay Lay, which was renewed for a second season in January. He most recently performed his second Netflix stand-up special It Ain’t For The Weak, which premiered on July 19.

“We are shocked and incredibly saddened by the sudden passing of our dear friend and creative partner, David A. Arnold,” Nickelodeon added in their own statement. “David was an immense talent and a gifted storyteller with a wide range of fans, from adults through his stand-up, to kids and families through the Nickelodeon show he created and executive produced for us, That Girl Lay Lay. On behalf of everyone at Nickelodeon, we send our thoughts and condolences to his family, his friends and his fans.”

Arnold is survived by his wife Julie L. Harkness, and two children, Anna-Grace and Ashlyn.
