Legendary actor Samuel L. Jackson joins Taylor Sheridan’s star-studded television universe and a who’s who of legendary actors via the Tulsa King Empire.
Jackson, 76, is starring in his first-ever television series with the first Tulsa King spinoff for Paramount+. The actor will helm NOLA King, set in New Orleans.
Deadline reported Jackson will appear in multiple episodes of Tulsa King‘s upcoming third season before headlining and executive producing the new series.
NOLA King follows Russell Lee Washington Jr. (Jackson) who is sent to Tulsa by New York’s Renzetti crime family to take Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) out. Washington ultimately returns to New Orleans, rekindles his relationship with his family, friends, and tries to take control of the city he left behind.
Jackson joins other legendary actors in the Taylor Sheridan universe who have found huge success in their respective franchise series. These include Kevin Costner (Yellowstone), Harrison Ford (1923), Helen Mirren (1923), Billy Bob Thornton (Landman), Demi Moore (Landman), Sam Elliott (1883, Landman), and Nicole Kidman (Lioness).
“Samuel L. Jackson brings unparalleled presence and global appeal, making him the perfect choice to maximize the momentum of one of our biggest hits and transform it into a hit franchise,” said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, to Deadline. “Building on the breakout success of Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King, audiences will now experience the full force of Jackson’s dynamic, layered performance, supercharging one of Paramount+’s flagship series.”
Sylvester Stallone added, “Chris McCarthy came to me with a game-changing idea: to elevate my show beyond a mob boss series, creating a dynamic, family-driven franchise. I was immediately on board. Sam Jackson is the only choice to anchor this new adventure in NOLA, and David Glasser and 101 are the perfect partners to bring it to life.”
Samuel L. Jackson received an honorary Oscar in 2022 at the Academy's Governors Awards for his lifetime of achievement. The award was presented by his friend Denzel Washington
