Ryan Murphy is going for the thrills and chills in Monster Season 3.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the director and producer tapped Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam to play killer Ed Gein, the "Butcher of Plainfield."

The official Netflix synopsis reads: “Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare.”

“Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades,” the synopsis continues.

“From Psycho to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Gein’s macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant. Ed Gein didn’t just influence a genre -- he became the blueprint for modern horror.”

This is the third installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's anthology series. Monster: The Ed Gein Story tells the story of how a Plainfield, Wisconsin resident became one of the most frightening killers in history.

The tagline reads, “He revealed to the world the most horrific truth of all -- that monsters aren't born, they're made...by us.”

Murphy's Monster anthology began with Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which starred Evan Peters. Season one was released in September 2022.

The series' second installment, released in 2024, was called Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and featured the story of the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of having murdered their parents in their Beverly Hills home in 1989.

Hunnam played biker Jackson "Jax" Teller on Sons of Anarchy for seven seasons. Monster: The Ed Gein Story premieres on Netflix beginning October 3.
