An official cause of death has been revealed for Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.

PEOPLE reported that the late talent manager, who represented both Clarkson and Blake Shelton, died of melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis confirmed the cause and manner of death to the outlet, which was natural causes.

Hollis said, "Brandon Blackstock passed away peacefully at his home in Butte, Montana, on August 7th under hospice care surrounded by his family.”

Blackstock died on Thursday, August 7. A representative for the family shared the news in a statement.

"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," said the statement. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."

News of Blackstock’s death came one day after Clarkson announced that she would be postponing her shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. "Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas," she wrote in an Instagram post.

Clarkson continued: "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding."

The first American Idol winner and Blackstock married in 2013. She filed for divorce in 2020. Their divorce was finalized two years later.

The couple has two children, River and Remy. Blackstock is also a father to Seth and Savannah from his marriage to Melissa Ashworth.
